Las Vegas, NV- The Vh1 Rock Honors is quickly becoming the Rock event of the year. And again this year, I was lucky enough to take in a great night of music that included: ZZ Top, Heart, Genesis, and Ozzy Osbourne. Also, we were able to cover the ring presentations in the media room upstairs in the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Bam Margera was the nights host and used his parents in some skits in between performances. Actor Billy Bob Thornton presented ZZ Top, actress Cameron Diaz presented Heart, Comedian Robin Williams presented Genesis, and actress/musician Jada Pinkett Smith presented Ozzy Osbourne. The bands who played tribute to ZZ Top, Heart, Genesis, and Ozzy Osbourne were: Nickelback (ZZ Top), Alice In Chains with Gretchen Wilson (Heart), Keane (Genesis), and Queens of the Stone Age (Ozzy Osbourne).

The bands along with their presenters came to the media room and posed for photos, and then the presenters presented the inductees with their rings. All of the bands that were inducted along with Alice In Chains took part in the media room photos and Q&A. Heart and Ozzy (very surprising) spent the most time in the media room.
With many media covering the event, GlamMetal.com were able to ask questions to the artists.
GlamMetal.com: Alice In Chains, How’s the new CD coming along?
Alice In Chains: (All chimed in) laughed. Sean Kinney: The musical one? (Everyone laughed) Mike Inez: It’s high pitching that only dogs can hear it. (Everyone laughed again, Seems like no one wanted to answer this question seriously)
GlamMetal.com: ZZ Top, Are you guys going on an extended tour?
Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top: First ninety days just elapsed, we have a brief break window, and we will continue on that lovely long road. Come out and see us! We have a great show for ya!

GlamMetal.com: Heart, throughout your musical career, are you the most happiest right now?
Nancy Wilson of Heart: This still feels like we are just starting out in a lot of ways. Part of it is because we are still allowed and still encouraged to do what we want to do. Nobody has completely written us of yet. Nights like tonight are incredible for us! To be acknowledged; because we worked our butts off!!
GlamMetal.com: Heart, Do you guys have plans for a new studio album?
Nancy Wilson of Heart: Yea! We have been writing new songs for new Heart album that is a concept album. We got a long ways yet. We have about 3 or 4 songs done. It’s a lot different from other stuff; it’s a true line concept album. Other than that we are just doing the tours and the next time Cameron Crowe wants me to do a movie (her husband), I’m going to do that too! (everyone laughs).
(VH1 staff told the press that Genesis would have to be limited as they had other commitments so very few questions were asked to them)
GlamMetal.com: Ozzy: Are you excited about your upcoming tour?
Ozzy: umm…yea! (Everyone laughs). Were going to Russia…. (Editors note: Everyone was chiming in for Ozzy and it was hard to get his undivided attention)
GlamMetal.com: How do you feel about the new album?
Ozzy: It’s awesome man!! I never thought… Then, when I first heard it I was like growl growl I can’t do that. Then I was told don’t be afraid to ask for help that’s when I (proceeds to scream: HHEELLPP). (Editors note he was asked another question before he finished answering mine).
After Ozzy was done Sharon came in the room and was joined by Criss Angel. Criss Angel presented a special ring from his hand to Ozzy thanking him saying if it wasn’t for him, that he wouldn’t be where he is today. Both Sharon and Ozzy were totally cool with everyone!
After the media session, I was able to get into the VIP party afterwards at the House of Blues. The party benefited the Vh1 Save The Music Foundation. Some of the people who were there were: Genesis (minus Phil Collins), Criss Angel, Zakk Wylde (who gave a hug to yours truly), Blasko, Carrot Top, Kelly Osbourne, and Bam Margera and his parents. The performers were genuine in answering the media’s questions. It was a great day and an honor to be able to cover such a special event.
