I'm back for another review folks! I flew down to Vegas to spend some time with new friends I have met over the last two times I have been there since the VH1 Rock Honors show. I wanted to check out the Velvet Revolver show at the Joint located at the Hard Rock Hotel. Unfortunately my request for to VR's publicist went in too late and all press credentials were already given out. So, I had to wing my way in or pay 107.00 for a ticket. Well, I was lucky to scalp a ticket for 30.00 bucks before the show (I was very happy about that)! The show as not sold out, but it was comfortably crowded. The Joint is a really cool intimate place to see a concert in Vegas. All shows are general admission on the floor in front of the stage with limited seating upstairs. I was able to maneuver my way through the crowd without losing my spot. I took residence up front to the left with one person separating me from the barrier. Dave Kushner and Duff McKagen were staged on my side with Scott Weiland and Slash making their occasional visits as well.

Well...on to the review of the show. The band was supposed to go on about 9:15, but didn't go on to about 10:00pm. They ended up playing till about 11:30 or so. They started off with "Do it for the Kids" and ended up playing a total of 17 songs which included a killer version of Pink Floyd’s "Wish you were Here" (which I though was the best song of the night). It was simply amazing. VR did two separate encores and ended their show with their best known song, "Slither."
Overall, the band I thought was going through the motions as there was no chemistry or very little interaction between them. Slash played a variety of BC Rich guitars which was cool and different from his usual Gibson model guitars he is known for playing. Scott incorporated the megaphone into a quarter of the songs played through the night. They were solid as individuals, but not cohesive as a band.
Rumors are swirling that there is infighting among the members, which put the shows (there were a couple scheduled in California the following nights) in jeopardy. A friend of mine who was backstage did mention to me that Scott had somewhat of an attitude after the show and immediately took off. I think this is very unfortunate as their debut album "Contraband" was a great CD and shows what potential this group can have if they decide to stick around for the long haul and work together as a band!
