Sass Jordan Molson Canal Concerts Series Tonawanda, NY June 23, 2007 Review/Photos by Gus Griesinger
It was a pleasure to see one of Canada’s finest voices Sass Jordan take part in the weekly free concert series at Gateway Park in the Tonawanda’s. A crowd of about 1,500 took in the show which was Sass’ first appearance in the area since her show at the Tralf in January of 2003. Sass took the stage at 9:30pm with her band that includes her husband Derek Sharp on guitar. She opened up with her hit “If Your Gonna Love Me” off of the “Racine” CD. Her band only have done a few select shows up to that point but sounded in tip top shape. Sass was happy to be there playing in front of a live audience, something she hasn’t done much over the last couple of years due to her other projects (Canadian Idol judge). Her soulful vocals have not diminished one bit as songs like “You Don’t Have to Remind Me” really showcase her talents. Sass made comments between songs like “I love Americans because you like music and so do I!” Sass ran through other songs like “Sun’s Gonna Rise,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” and “High Road Easy,” It’s nice to see Sass and her husband/guitar player Derek Sharp interact together on stage as you can tell there is a high sense of mutual admiration of each other when performing. This may be the highlight free show of the summer in my eyes. If you’re able to see Sass and her band do any shows this summer, do yourself a favor and go! You will not be disappointed!
