Santa Monica,Ca-My first concert review of the year takes us to the west coast to see one of the most talented musicians on the planet, Lenny Kravitz. Lenny took the stage before a sold out crowd on his first stop of a club tour in support of “It’s Time for a Love Revolution,” which will be out in February. Lenny offered a fitting tribute to his hometown of Santa Monica by choosing to kick-off the tour there. Though suffering from a flu bug, Lenny plowed his way through an hour and a 45 minute set that featured songs off his new CD, as well as his more well known hits. Opening with the new single “Bring it On,” Lenny appeared on stage wearing a pair of shades and was limited in his interactions with the crowd than I’ve seen him in the past. The band, which also consisted of two horn players, sounded tight at times but during the middle of the set tended to drag on. Songs like, “It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over” left some w ishing it was having lulled the crowd a bit, but towards the end it picked right back up as “Dig In,” “American Woman,” and “Fly Away” proved to be the obligatory crowd pleasers. Lenny showed his acoustic prowess on two tracks, “Stillness of Heart” and “Believe.” Kravitz is one artist who's songs tend to carry a message of bringing people together. For example, during the song “Let Love Rule” Lenny normally likes to travel through the crowd while performing it, this night was no exception, even though he was battling the flu as stated earlier. The crowd sang the chorus as he trudged through different parts of the floor in front of the stage area while wearing a shirt that had the same words printed on it. The first encore featured “Love Revolution,” which I bet will be the next single as it has the feeling of a non-stop train with some power behind it. This kept the crowd going until he went into “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” All in all it was a great performance considering the state Lenny was in. I’m really looking forward to a healthy and balls out Kravitz to revolutionize us on his upcoming tour! For more information on Lenny Kravitz and his upcoming tour, go to: www.lennykravitz.com . We would like to thank Julie at “Press Here PR” for allowing glammetal to cover this show.
