Toronto, Ont- The first leg of the “Live After Death” tour wrapped up this past Sunday night in Toronto to a enthusiastic and sold out crowd. Unlike their last tour in 2006, where they focused on playing songs from their release “A Matter of Life and Death,” they focused more on their overall catalogue this time around. It makes sense since this tour is in support of their latest DVD “Live After Death.” See our review here : http://www.glam-metal.com/cd_reviews.html .

Maiden took the stage around 8:30 and played two solid hours of heart pounding, fist pumping, and head shaking metal that we all as fans have come to know after all of these years. The band started the festivities off with “Aces High” from 1984’s “Powerslave.” Singer Bruce Dickinson was full of energy as he ran around the massive stage (that resembled the Powerslave CD.) He also made plenty of references to how happy they were to be ending the first leg of the tour in Toronto and dropped hints that they may be coming back in the summer.

The band sounded great and seemed to be having a blast playing classic Maiden songs: “The Trooper,” Wasted Years,” and “Fear of the Dark.” During the song “Heaven Can Wait,” about 50 lucky contest winners were able to grab some spotlight as they were brought up to sing a verse of the tune. Bruce did change outfits as he wore a black robe during “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” and also donned a mask during the song “Powerslave.” In addition to the many “masks” of Bruce, there were also plenty of fireworks to go along with the “Powerslave” song too. Guitarist Janick Gers was a dancing and guitar slinging madman during the last song before the encore, “Iron Maiden.” The tandem of bassist Steve Harris and drummer Nico McBrain represent the backbone of this legendary band and witnessing their live performance brings to life the driving force that makes this band “go” that’s for sure.

What would the night have been without the appearance of metal’s most famous mascot “Eddie” who reared his head during the tune “Iron Maiden.” “This was a tremendous night of metal that’s for sure!
