This was one of the more highly anticipated shows of the year due to the week long rumor of a reunion of the original Guns and Roses (minus Axl Rose) during the performance of Adler’s Appetite. The occasion was to mark the 20-year anniversary of the release of one of the most influential albums in Rock and Roll history, “Appetite for Destruction.” A soon to be released documentary entitled “Reckless Road” that documents the bands early years, was shown before Adler’s Appetite took the stage to rile up the crowd. It was cool to see how young the band was when they started out.

Adler’s took the stage at about 12:15 pm to a sold out crowd eager to catch any glimpse of Steven Adler’s old band mates. It should be noted that Adler’s Appetite now consists of: Kristy Majors on rhythm guitar, Chip Z’Nuff on bass, Michael Thomas on guitar, and Colby Veil on vocals. Colby Veil sounded almost exactly like Axl Rose and he was a great find for this band. During the bands 5th song “Mr. Brownstone,” original members Duff McKagen and Izzy Stradlin joined the rest of the band on stage and had a great time playing to the crowd. Too bad this was the only song Duff came out for as Izzy came out later in the set to sing lead on “Tijuana.” He stayed on for the next two songs; a cover of Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin” and “Paradise City.” Chad Stewart from (Paul Black’s) LA Guns came out to help sing on AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” and “Sin City.” Slash was hanging out backstage, but for some reason never joined up with his ex-bandmates on stage??

LA Guns took the stage right before Adler’s Appetite and got the crowd going with their own style of Hollywood Glam Rock. Paul Black came out wearing a shirt that said “I love being black!” You knew right then and there we were in for a real Hollywood rock show! The band played old favorites “One More Reason,” “Sex Action,” and “Rip and Tear.” A pinnacle part of LA Guns’ set was created when Paul Black called a bunch of people up to the stage to help sing “Ballad of Jayne,” leaving quite the Kum Ba Yah feeling throughout the Key Club. Tracii Guns really shined throughout the night. During his guitar solo, he played parts of Ratt’s “Way Cool Jr.” and AC/DC’s “Hells Bells.” A very underrated guitarist in my opinion!

An overwhelming crowd response was given to both bands. It was rousing to see the home crowd used to it’s advantage as both of these bands seem to be loved by their hometown of Hollywood, CA! A very special “Thank You” goes out to Kelly Pipitone who was able to accommodate our late request to cover this rockstar studded show!
