The multi-platinum band The Goo Goo Dolls are still on tour in support of “Let Love In,” a CD which was released a year and a half ago. And we at GlamMetal.com were luck enough to catch two of the Goo Goo Dolls recent sold-out performances. Jim Hackett our photographer was present in the photo pit when the GGD’s played at the Mohegan Sun, CT. And I was there for the band’s homecoming show at Darien Lake near Buffalo NY. The Darien Lake show was especially entertaining as the band was in rare form. They started the show with a fast pace and hard rocking version of “Long Way Down,” from the “ Boy Named Goo’ release. After that song John Rzeznik did something very much out of character. After the first song was over, he was given a new guitar from his roadie (because of the weird ass tunings Rzeznik uses a zillion guitars a show). Rzeznik then proceed to fumble with the guitar for a bit and had some technical problems. Finally, he had enough and smashed the guitar to the amusement and shock of the 21,000 people jammed into the ampitheather. He then strapped on a new guitar that worked and the band slammed into their mega hit “Slide.” That set the tone for the remainder of the show. The band was on fire. They were passionate and focused and gave their hometown crowd a show to cherish for a long time. Another highlight of the evening included the performance of the band’s first major hit “Name.” Before the song, Rzeznik stated that he wrote the song when he though that he was wasting away his life. It’s amazing how that song was almost not released as a single back in 95 and the band was on the verge of losing their deal with WB Records. But, it’s been one hit after another and 20 million CD’s sold worldwide since then. The Goo Goo Dolls plan on touring until October. They will then began writing and recording their new CD in Buffalo NY. Rzeznik and bass player Robby Takac will also produce the new CD themselves.
