2005-tommyt

It’s hard to believe the year has come and gone. It felt like the summer of ‘87 all over again, as the 2005 concert season brought us The Rock Never Stops Tour, The American Metal Blast, Metal Mania Stripped Across America and a short but rockin’ Def Leppard/Tesla tour reunion, to name a few. New releases from rock veterans such as, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Billy Idol and LA Guns coupled with blistering new music from Black Label Society, Brides of Destruction, Vain, The Erotics and Canadian rockers Crash Kelly and Revolver kept our heads banging throughout the year. And Kiss, UFO and Motley Crue released incredible, must have, live DVD’s, filled with amazing, extra bonus footage

One of the most successful tours of the year- Ozzfest successfully intertwined founding fathers of old school metal, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, with today’s up and coming bands such as Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Mudvayne and As I Lay Dying. Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society ruled the main stage at Ozzfest this year, as they performed to frenzied fans across the country. BLS’s "Mafia" is simply brilliant, and definitely ranks as Deb’s favorite album of 2005. Also look for Zakk Wylde to be inducted into Hollywood's Rock Walk on January 17, 2006.

Following the same vein, another mixed bag of metal was “Gigantour” that featured Megadeth and Dream Theatre and also brought Anthrax and Fear Factory along for the ride.

The summer of ’05 also saw all four original members of Motley Crue re-unite to re-claim their title as the “bad boys” of rock. Releasing a double greatest hits package entitled “Red, White and Crue” in early 2005, a time when music seemed to be lacking direction and real “rock stars” were some mythical creature of days gone by, The Crue re-emerged to show the world how it’s done and had no problem living up to their fans expectations. Motley's Carnival of Sins Tour included dancing girls, pyro, motorcycles and good ol' fashioned Rock and Roll. The boys are still rippin’ things up across the country, as the Sins tour rolls on. Amazingly, no one has O.D’d, been arrested, or died yet! The Crue may have settled down a bit, but they still deliver a kick ass rock n’ roll show, Motley style!

Both The Rock Never Stops Tour featuring Cinderella, Quiet Riot, Ratt, and Firehouse and the Metal Mania Stripped tour that featured Don Dokken, Jani Lane, Stephen Pearcy, Kip Winger and Firehouse proved that there is still a legion of die-hard 80's fanatics out there willing to part with a few bucks in order to take a stroll down memory lane and re-capture their youth for a night.

However, everything revolves around change, and the same holds true for music. As 2005 comes to a close, some exciting news was Quiet Riot’s announcement of the addition of Tracii Guns to their line-up. It will be interesting to see what amazing new work the band will produce, along with all of the other glam, slam, rockin’ bands out there keeping it alive!! Glam-Metal would like to extend its best wishes to guitar whiz, Alex Grossi. Alex did a great job while in Quiet Riot and we are looking forward to hearing a lot from him in the near future. He is the reason why we we do this... No, not really, it just seems that way some times :)

And let’s not forget Crash Kelly, who will be releasing their follow up to “Penny Pills” sometime early in 2006. This upcoming release, produced by ex-Guns n’ Roses member Gilby Clarke, will surely bring Crash Kelly to the next level of SuperStardom. Sean and the boys plan on touring a lot during 2006, so take it from us, if they play your town, you must go and see this band live. They will Rock your little face off.

Finally, Glam-Metal would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to all of the musicians (especially Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls, Mike Trash of the Erotics, Sean Kelly of Crash Kelly, Lizzie Grey of Spiders and Snakes, Alex Grossi and all the musicians that have worn the GlamMetal.com tee shirt) for supporting the site. Also, a HUGE Thank You!!! to our faithful readers and our Troops, who are defending our proud Nation in these trouble times. You guys kick ass and are the real stars!!!

In addition, we would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday Season, and Rockin’ New Year. We are looking forward to making 2006 a great year for our readers as we continue to bring you exclusive interviews, concert reviews and much more. Stick around, you will be surprised at what we have lined up for you. (We will post our top 10 releases of 2005, next week )

To close the year, we asked some of our favorite musicians to comment on their personal highlights of the year, here 's what they said:

Best Disappointment of 2005?
2005 was one of the best years of my life, any disappointments were erased by all of the good things that happened!

Give us some Rock n' Roll predictions for 2006?
The only thing I can predict is a lot of touring for Crash Kelly in support of our new record...anything on top of getting on the road and making new friends is just icing on the cake!

What are your New Year's Resolutions?
To try to be kinder person, and to work on being a more developed musician.

Who gets more chicks, Sean Kelly of Crash Kelly or Sean Kelly of Revolver?
I'm already married to best looking chick around, but I must say that both bands do seem to have a lot of ultra-foxy ladies at their gigs...life is good!

How can the record industry rebound from five straight years of declining sales?
Start releasing records on vinyl again...don't know if that will help sales, but it will make for better sounding/better looking packages!

What was your favorite gig this year?
Black Label Society had so many great shows this past year, what show stood out among them all? god that's gonna be tough , cause we played so many fuckin shows this year , but id say the show in Finland stuck out for me on a lot of ways . by that time in europe we were all so fried mentally from the traveling , every drive was not under 18 hours it seemed . but when we got there , it was really cool . the crowd was amazing but the thing that stuck out was , it never got dark . it was always somewhat daylight , even at 10 :30 we still had shades on , really weird.

What is your Rock and Roll Predictation for 2006. What will the trend in Metal be?
i think its just gonna get bigger again , u hear metal on everything now , from football to nascar to wrestling , its in more demand now i think , and the BLS army we have now is just growing , it shows every ozzfest and every tour we do , it just gets bigger . which i am totally greatful for

What will Black Label Society fans have instore for them in 2006?
i think the usual and maybe more . we are just becoming more of a band now , and its amazing , the jams we have and the shit we do feels and sounds so good to us , juts hope it sounds as good to the fans .

What were some of your favorite albums in 2005?                                                 loved the new Crowbar , and not just cause i am biased that the badass Mr. Nunenmacher played on it , Kirk is amazing and always rips me up, the new Sevendust kicks ass as well as COC .

With the year coming to a close, what was your favorite New year's Eve gig memory, and do you have any New Year Resolutions?
well BLS has never played on new years but its always a weird night for me , i get bugged out , thinking of what the new year is gonna bring . Good or bad . but every year i do the same thing , me and my folks go gambling then ring in the new year either broke or have some fuckin dough

Nick, What was your favorite Metal Moment of 2005?
probably watching Will Smith head bang on the ozzfest LOL . Cause Wicked Wisdom played , with his wife Jada singing , they kicked ass .

Is their anything that you would like to say to all of the Black Label Society fans here at GlamMetal?
nah ........... just kiddin , have a great holiday and happy new year and see ya all soon , and everyone watch star wars .

Lizzie Grey-
Spiders and Snakes
lizzie-Grey-hp
What was your personal favorite rock moment in 2005?
Every year it's always a powerful rock message being sent when fans of all ages, and from around the world, gather to pay tribute to John Lennon in New York. That gathering seemed especially poignant this year, with the world cluelessly engaged in widespread war and violence that contradicts everything Lennon stood for and tried to perpetuate through his music. I only hope that 2006 will be a year filled with great music and no war. Peace.

What was your favorite gig as a performer in 2005?
Spiders & Snakes performed at the live "Hollywood Rocks" show at the Key Club in Hollywood, celebrating the release of the Cleopatra album that pays tribute to the awesome '80s rock scene in L.A. that I was such a part of. The show was completely sold out, and the most exciting thing about the performance was seeing young fans getting into our music with as much enthusiasm as the rockers of twenty years ago!

The top three gigs that you witnessed?
1) Ian Hunter at the Tropicana in Las Vegas was awesome. He's the ultimate rock star and always will be.
2) Paul McCartney at the Staples Center in L.A. It's beyond inspirational to see and hear this guy still rocking with as much enthusiasm as he had in the '60s!
3) My little girl Ariel (she's a year and half now) rocking out at our rehearsal studio.

Your top 5 favorite new releases of 2005?
1) Spiders & Snakes "Hollywood Ghosts" (but I'm biased, of course).
2) "Hollywood Rocks" on Cleopatra (but again I'm biased).
3) Ultra Pop "All That Glitters" on FastLane Records (once again, I'm
biased).
4) Mott the Hoople compilation on Cleopatra
5) Sweet compilation

Biggest Disappointment of 2005?
War.

Give us some Rock n' Roll predictions for 2006?
'70s and '80s influenced hard rock will make a big comeback. It won't be exactly the same as it was in the day, but it will still be very cool. Spiders & Snakes will happily be a part of the ULTIMATE WAVE alongside bands like The Darkness and a whole bunch of new kids coming out of Europe.!

What are your New Year's Resolutions?
To record the best Spiders & Snakes album ever in 2006! We've already started, and it's tentatively entitled "Melodrama." The tracks are really coming together in ways we never imagined and I may actually live up
to this resolution!

How can the record industry rebound from five straight years of declining sales?
Stop selling and promoting music that pretty much sucks.

What was your personal favorite rock moment in 2005?
Watching Judas Priest in concert and listening to Rob Halford belt out the Priest favs. He was awesome, his voice still gives me the shivers. He's the real grandfather of Metal, he still has it going on.

What was your favorite gig as a performer in 2005?
Wow, this is a tough one since I seem to enjoy all of our shows, just being on stage playing our songs is a huge rush in itself but I did really enjoy shooting our last video "Blue Sky" it was a lot of fun.

The top three concerts that you witnessed?
Judas Priest

Bif Naked

Your top 5 favorite new releases of 2005?
I can't really think of 5 favs off the top of my head but I like the Foo Fighters release "In Your Honor" and I was given an advanced copy of the Joan Jett & The Blackhearts upcoming release titled "Naked" that I play constantly, if you're a Jett head then I highly recommend this, supposedly
its going to be released in North America very shortly.

Best Disappointment of 2005?
Billy Idol, was a huge disappointment, I went to his concert and he looked fantastic but his setlist selection wasn't the greatest and almost every song that I liked before didn't do it for me live. There was no energy on stage nor in the music and he changed the feel of the songs, in a weird way
I thought I was at a country music jam session. A good thing I could say is that "Flesh For Fantasy" was truly amazing. I still respect him and his band, but yeah it was a big disappointment.

Give us some Rock n' Roll predictions for 2006?
Courtney Love will be in rehab if not already there.

What are your New Year's Resolutions?
To put my social life in high gear and take the time to go out on a few more dates then I did in the last year.

How can the record industry rebound from five straight years of declining sales?
The major record companies and radio stations sign and play the same stuff everyday. They have the power to change up the music scene a little, maybe if they start to take a chance on signing and promoting new music sounds and styles from the underground then they might be able to create new
scenes which I think would be refreshing. A change in the mainstream would be fresh and might excite people to go out and spend more on cd’s then they normally would. Love the classics which will always be great but for new music give me something different instead of 1000 new releases that all
sound the same.

Troy Patrick Farrell - Mike Tramps White Lion
 troy-2-hp
what was your favorite gig in 2005?
By far, the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany with Dio, Twisted Sister, Hanoi Rocks and Sebastian Bach. It was 30,000 strong and was a 1st time to Europe and in front of that many people. And I thought 10,000 was a lot… It was done in a flash, but I’ll have loads of memories for years to come! (the Bang Your Head: 10th year anniversary DVD comes out early 06 from what I understand w/ two Tramp’s White Lion songs from that performance).

What were some of your favorite albums in 2005?
Burn Out The Stars by Magna Fi, Get A Load of This by SLUNT, the New Kings X (Ogre Tunes) is great, and The Spore by Opiate for the Masses.

With the year coming to a close, what was your favorite New Year's Eve gig memory, and do you have any New Year Resolutions?
I don’t think I’ve ever played a show on New Year’s Eve…and if I did, I didn’t remember it, so that would have to be my favorite one at least. Resolutions, I think they’re silly to make…I don’t make them, most people don’t stick to resolutions.

What was your favorite Metal Moment of 2005?
For me personally, it was seeing Dio on stage again. Dio was the 1st concert I saw when I was 12, so it really was great to have shared a stage with him and the likes of Sebastian Bach, Hanoi, Twisted Sister and Doro Pesch…I’m only sad we didn’t get to play the same night as her…

Do you have any Rock and Roll Predictions for 2006?
David Lee Roth will not rejoin Van Halen and Tracii Guns will leave Quiet Riot before the tour…I heard he likes to walk around nude, so that may not go over well on the bus!! Gosh, I really don’t know, just how I don’t make resolutions, I shouldn’t make predictions either! Have a wonderful and kick ass 06~!~..thx for the love over the past couple of years~!
